HOLD ME TO IT

Sunset Crater - Flagstaff, Arizona - a short hike at Christmastime

It's back to school tomorrow here in Phoenix* and I'm not happy we have to get up early again. [7:40am start?! WTF?] But I'll manage. With a shitload of coffee, I'll manage.

We spent the Christmas holidays near Sedona -- hiking and trail running on several of the days and drinking beer most evenings. Red rocks and howling coyotes. A single javelina. Snow! Nelle and I watched the movies Laputa Castle in the Sky and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (repeatedly) and I got through some mind-twisting fiction (of the sort I most like!) including The Book of Monelle by Marcel Schwob and My Happy Life by Lydia Millet. We played Rack-O and sometimes I won.

Mostly I didn't.

I started reading books about writing (again) because I'm jumping into longer forms and it all kinda terrifies me … and reading about writing isn't really wasting time, right?

Yeah, I know what they say.
JUST WRITE.

So it's back to school tomorrow here in Phoenix--however numbingly early it happens--and the day is mine. To write and write ...

Baldwin Trail - a longer short hike in Sedona, Arizona

And write.

Right now, I'm making blueberry quinoa bread, except without the blueberries and swirled through with hand-cut dark chocolate and homemade raspberry chia jam instead. I'm making dinner. And plans for my week.

A DRAFT OF THIS THING.

That's the plan.

Hold me to it.

I get distracted easily.

Axx

*yes! we're in Arizona till May!
