How to keep your toothbrush happy

The other day I walked into the bathroom to find Nelle vigorously scrubbing Grammy's hairbrush handle - with her own little toothbrush.

Ah, she's a thoughtful one, my girl ...

But it reminded me that now and then I might like to give our toothbrushes a clean, too. My favourite way is to soak the toothbrush heads in plain white vinegar for a day every week or so. (As we know from pickling) vinegar kills mold and bacteria, so it's a super-easy, non-toxic way to disinfect something you put into your mouth a couple of times a day.

Just saying.

After it's had a good vinegar-soak, just rinse your toothbrush in warm water before using it. And - if you feel inclined - use the vinegar to give your bathroom sink a good wash as you tip it out.

Easy Peasy!

  4. Hey Amanda, funny you should put this post up. I was looking at our toothbrushes yesterday thinking that it would be a good idea to clean them (instead of just throwing them out!!!) I bet Grammy (Auntie Jeannie to me!!) will be impressed with Nelle's thoughtfulness :) I hope you have a great day Girls. Hugs D

  14. Honestly, I haven't changed my toothbrush for ten months even though my fishers dentists told me to change my toothbrush every three months. I love my toothbrush and I can't find anything like it that's why I can't throw her away. (I named my toothbrush Emily because she's color purple). For me, there's no reason for replacing her but my dentists will get mad at me if I told them about my toothbrush. Anyway, thanks for sharing this article, I hope it will also make my toothbrush stronger because she's getting uglier and weaker! But the vinegar will make her clean, imagine I haven't cleaned her for ten months! Thanks again.
